Top Box Office Grossers: Fourth Week in October

Variety reports the top movies, in terms of box office take, for the week of 23-29 October 2009. Defying the box office norm of opening big and then slowly shrinking, Paranormal Activity has finally climbed to the top of the charts. This week, it took in $27.8 million to give it the #1 spot (from last week's #3), and a five-week total box office take of $68.2 million. Another horror flick opened at #2: Saw VI, which grossed $17.3 million. Where the Wild Things Are was knocked down from #1 to #3, earning $17.2 million, for a two-week total of $56.7 million. Astro Boy opened at #7, bringing in $7.9 million. Cirque du Freak: The Vampire's Assistant opened at #8, grossing $7.7 million. The Stepfather fell from #5 to #9, bringing in $7.5 million, for a two-week total of $21.3 million. Cloudy with a Chance of Meatballs slipped from #7 to #10, grabbing $6.3 million, for a six-week total of $115.9 million.

Zombieland fell from #6 to #11, taking in $5.6 million, for a four-week total of $68.6 million. The Toy Story / Toy Story 2 re-release fell from #8 to #14, earning $1.2 million, for a four-week total of $30.3 million. Surrogates fell from #9 to #18, bringing in $750 thousand, for a five-week total of $37.8 million. GI Joe fell from #19 to #24, grossing $300 thousand, for a twelve-week total of $150.1 million

Harry Potter and the Half-Blood Prince, last week's #25, fell out of the top 25 in its fifteenth week in release.
