Joe Haldeman update: out of the hospital, into rehab

By Ian Randal Strock

Gay continues to update Joe Haldeman's condition (see this article, and also this SFF.net thread).

Joe is finally out of the hospital and into a rehabilitation center. On 15 October, Gay wrote "Joe moved to Drake Center, 151 W. Galbraith Rd., Cincinnati, OH 45216. Private room. The transition was smooth, though tiring. He's being assessed by everyone, so people were in and out interacting with him all day. Everyone seems upbeat and happy. The gastric tube is out, so he's trying to eat more and the food is better. He's stronger today, able to shift in bed and hold a fork. He even read a couple of e-mails and the comics. Seems like a good place for him right now. Dinner with Denise and Steve Leigh for Rusty and me. I'm exhausted but thrilled at how well Joe's doing. Love, Gay"

I've been away and only just learned that Joe was in hospital -- and I'm delighted to hear that he's now out. I hope things continue to go well, that Joe is home soon, and that Gay gets through it without collapsing. Love to both of you.
