Michael & Nomi Burstein double their family size

By Ian Randal Strock

Award-winning science fiction writer (and SF Scope contributor) Michael A. Burstein and wife Nomi Burstein welcomed two twin children, their first, to their family today.

The twins are fraternal, and both are girls. The first baby was born at 9:20AM, weighed 5 pounds 8 ounces, and is 17" long. The second baby was born at 9:21AM, weighed 5 pounds 3 ounces, and is 19" long. The twins were delivered by C-section at Brigham & Women's Hospital in Boston. The attending physician was Dr. Rafik Mansour. The delivery was originally scheduled for this Thursday, but was moved up for medical reasons.

As befits a science-fiction couple, the Bursteins are banking the babies' cord blood for the blood's stem cells.

Per Modern Orthodox Jewish custom, the babies will not be named until the parents attend a Torah service at their synagogue, Kadimah-Toras Moshe in Brighton, which is currently planned for Saturday 25 July.

Mother and babies are recovering in the hospital.

Congratulations, Bursteins!

Edited a week late to note that, following the baby naming ceremony, Michael writes to tell us of his children's names:
Elisheva Meira Burstein
Yael Batya Burstein

"Elisheva Meira is named for my great grandmother Elizabeth and Nomi's great grandfather Meir. Yael Batya is named for my father Joel and our friend David's father Julius or Yehuda (who died the Saturday night before the girls were born) and for Nomi's grandmother Betty."

Mazel tov! Wonderful news! Now someone remind Michael that telling a joke or funny story to a woman who has just had a C-section is SO not funny! My congratulations and best wishes to Mom, Dad, and their daughters. I am sure they will be such a blessing to their parents.

Dear Michael and Nomi, Now, if we multiply the number of Fractional babies by two do we have one perfect little girl or two perfect little Fractional girls? This is beginning to have a sci-fi problem quality. Congratulations and love to all, Claire, the Fractional Friedland

Congratulations Nomi and Michael!

It's been a while, Nomi, hope everything is well with the babies and everything.

I found this page while looking for you on Facebook, which linked to your home page, Michael's Wikipedia page and to here.

Yes, I'm writing this, Nomi, as 'though you may read it, but if that is unlikely then I apologize to the members of this forum.

I'll try to email soon.

Ciao,
Bill
