Albedo One's International Aeon Award 2009 is ongoing. Co-editor Frank Ludlow reminds us that the contest's goal "is to promote writers and writing in the speculative fiction genres."
Ludlow also writes to say "we've just announced on the Albedo One website the stories added by the judges to the contest shortlist after the second round of consideration, which ran from April to the end of July. Author names are removed to ensure impartiality while the judging proceeds, but the story titles are below. This brings the total shortlist to 11 stories."

Ludlow emphasizes that the Aeon Award is still open for entries, until the end of November. "Grand Judge, respected SF author Ian Watson, will then choose the winning stories. The Grand Prize is €1000 and publlication in Albedo One, Ireland's magazine of Science Fiction, Fantasy and Horror. Second and third place prizes are €200 and €100 and publication in Albedo One. Submissions must be no longer than 8000 words, in any speculative fiction genre (cross-genre or unclassifiable stories welcome)." Full details are available on this page.
In other Aeon Award news, Julian West's "My Marriage"—which won the first Aeon Award contest (2004-2005), and was published in issue #31 of Albedo One—will be translated to French and published in Galaxies magazine. And coming the other way, Albedo One will publish "Homeward Journey" by Frank W. Haubould, which won the 2008 German SF Award, and is translated by Wilf James.
