Top Box Office Grossers: Second Week in June

Variety reports the top movies, in terms of box office take, for the week of 5-11 June 2009. Comedy release The Hangover took the top spot away from genre films for the first time in quite a while. Up was pushed down to #2, taking in $63.6 million, for a two-week total of $156.7 million. Will Ferrell's new remake of a tv series, Land of the Lost, opened in the #3 spot, grabbing $25.8 million. Night at the Museum: Battle Smithsonian was down from #2 to #4, grossing $21.2 million, for a three-week total of $133.8 million. Star Trek had a great week, comparatively, holding steady at #5. This week, it took in $12.0 million, for a five-week total of $226.4 million. Terminator Salvation was down from #3 to #6, earning $11.8 million, for a three-week box office total of $109.1 million. Drag Me to Hell was dragged down from #4 to #7, dragging in $10.1 million, for a two-week total of $31.3 million. Angels & Demons was down from #6 to #8, taking in $9.5 million, for a four-week total of $119.1 million. X-Men Origins: Wolverine was down from #8 to #10, bringing in $2.8 million, for a six-week total of $175.2 million.

The Ghosts of Girlfriends Past slipped from #9 to #12, taking in $1.4 million, for a six-week total of $52.4 million. We were wrong last week: Monsters vs. Aliens is still flying high. This week, it moved up the charts, from #16 to #15, earning another $425 thousand, for an eleven-week total of $195.0 million. Race to Witch Mountain is another moving showing great legs. This week, it held steady at #17, bringing in another $400 thousand, for a thirteen-week total of $66.3 million. 17 Again fell from #15 to #19, with a box-office take of $325 thousand, for an eight-week total of $61.7 million.
