Top Box Office Grossers: First Week in June

Variety reports the top movies, in terms of box office take, for the week of 29 May-4 June 2009. New animated release Up soared over everything else, taking in $93.1 million. Night at the Museum: Battle Smithsonian drifted down from #1 to #2, grabbing $32.9 million, for a two-week total of $112.7 million. Terminator Salvation was down from #2 to #3, taking in $22.8 million, for a two-week box office total of $97.3 million. Drag Me to Hell opened at #4, grossing $21.2 million. Star Trek was down from #3 to #5, garnering another $17.7 million, for a four-week total of $214.4 million. Angels & Demons was down from #4 to #6, taking in $16.1 million, for a three-week total of $109.6 million. Non-genre film Dance Flick fell from #5 to #7. X-Men Origins: Wolverine was down from #6 to #8, bringing in $5.4 million, for a five-week total of $172.4 million. The Ghosts of Girlfriends Past slipped from #7 to #9, taking in $2.9 million, for a five-week total of $51.0 million. The drama Obsessed, at #10, is the other non-genre flick in the top ten.

17 Again fell from #10 to #15, bringing in $500 thousand, for a seven-week total of $61.4 million. Monsters vs. Aliens finally shows signs of succumbing to its long run; it fell from #9 to #16, grossing $475 thousand, for a ten-week total of $194.6 million. Race to Witch Mountain continues its climb (yes, climb!) on the charts, this week up from #19 to #17, earning another $450 thousand, for a twelve-week total of $65.9 million.

Knowing, last week's #23, fell out of the top 25, in its eleventh week in release.
