Spectrum 16 Art Award Winners

The jury for the 16th annual Spectrum art competition has announced this year's winners in a variety of categories. The winners (a Gold Award and Silver Award in each category) receive a sculpted award, and all the works selected by the judges will appear in Spectrum 16: The Best in Contemporary Fantastic Art, which will be published by Underwood Books in October.

The winners (by category) are:

Advertising:
Gold: Ryohei Hase, "Go Forward and Forward" for FIGHTSTAR/Raw Power Management.
Silver: Yuko Shimizu, "Little Red Polka Dots and Other Stories" for Microsoft UltimatePC.

Book:
Gold: Petar Meseldzija, illustration for The Legend of Steel Bashaw (published by Zmaj, Novi Sad).
Silver: Jean-Baptiste Monge, "Dunlee Darnan" (published by Au Bord des Continents).

Comics:
Gold: Jon Foster, cover of Buffy the Vampire Slayer #14 (published by Dark Horse Comics).
Silver: Aleksi Briclot, illustration of Annihilation: Conquest #5 (published by Marvel Entertainment).

Concept Art:
Gold: Daniel Dociu, "Mole Tunnels" (for ArenaNet/Guildwars).
Silver: Kekai Kotaki, "Snow Battle" (for ArenaNet/Guildwars).

Dimensional:
Gold: Akhito, "Elegant Medusa".
Silver: David Meng, "Satyr's Head".

Editorial:
Gold: Craig Elliott, "Damali Richards" (for Devil's Candy Store).
Silver: Nate Van Dyke, "Pool Hall Brawl" (for Juxtapoz Magazine).

Institutional:
Gold: James Gurney, "Song in the Garden" (for Maison D'Ailleurs).
Silver: Jaime Jones, "Progenitus" (for Wizards of the Coast).

Unpublished:
Gold: Jeremy Enecio, "Koi".
Silver: David Laub, "She's Back".

The judges were Kevin Brimmer (artist/art director for Muller Bressler Brown), David Dorman (artist), Donato Giancola (artist/instructor at the School of Visual Arts), Steven Sanders (artist), and Robert Self (publisher of Baby Tattoo Books). The series editors are Cathy and Arnie Fenner.
