By Kit Hawkins

Singer and actor Jimmy Boyd died 7 March 2009 of cancer. Born 9 January 1939 in McComb, Mississippi, he was best known for a song he recorded at the age of 12: "I Saw Mommy Kissing Santa Claus". The song, written by Tommie Connor, sold more than two million copies in its first few weeks in release. Indeed, Universal Pictures cast him mas the kid brother in The Second Greatest Sex when he was 15. In 1957, he had the title role in a musical version of Huckleberry Finn on The United States Steel Hour.

Boyd's genre roles include: Brainstorm (1983), Batman (1967), Two Little Bears (1961), and Space Patrol (1952).

Boyd was married twice, to actress Yvonne Craig from 1960 to 1962, and to Anna Forrey from 1980 to 1984. He is survived by his son, Devon, from his second marriage.
