Natasha Mostert's new novel to support "Fighting for Peace"

By Ian Randal Strock

Dutton will publish Natasha Mostert's new novel, Keeper of Light and Dust, in hardcover in April. The book "combines ancient mysticism with cutting-edge science, unveiling a series of mysteries: a secret clan of women called, 'Keepers' who have healed and protected warriors through the ages; a modern-day vampire who seeks something other than blood; and a succession of martial artists in fine physical shape who have suddenly and mysteriously died. The quest to live forever, the imperative of violence, and the redemptive power of love are themes that coalesce in the intricate plot of Mostert's fast-paced thriller."

What makes this release even more interesting is that a portion of the proceeds from the sale of Keeper of Light and Dust "will go toward funding the Cooperation for Peace and Unity's CPAU Fighting for Peace, which is an initiative aimed at empowering Afghan women through boxing."

CPAU is "working for the promotion of knowledge and awareness of peace, social justice and human rights as the foundation upon which the future development of Afghanistan will be built."

London-based South African Mostert is also the author of gothic thrillers such as The Midnight Side, The Other Side of Silence, Windwalker, and Season of the Witch.

I just read on Mostert's website that she has won the World Book Day Award 2009 last week for Season of the Witch and that she will be donating her five thousand pound prize money to the Afghani women program as well. Great cause.
