Clete Smith sells film rights to Grandma's Intergalactic Bed & Breakfast to Disney

New author Clete Smith has sold the film rights to his as-yet-unpublished YA novel Grandma's Intergalactic Bed & Breakfast. Agent Jody Hotchkiss, of Hitchkiss & Associates, managed the deal for film rights with purchaser Disney (the book itself hasn't yet found a publisher, but it is being represented by George Nicholson of Sterling Lord Literistic. The book is about a boy who spends the summer at his grandmother's B&B in Washington State, and discovers the it caters to vacationing aliens.

Publishers Weekly says that Smith has an MFA from Vermont College and has won a handful of screenwriting contests. PW also quotes Nicholson as saying Smith is a "promising comedic talent."

David Hoberman, who was part of Honey, I Shrunk the Kids (1989) and the forthcoming Surrogates, is already attached to the project as a producer.
