2009 People's Choice Awards highlight The Dark Knight

The 36th annual People's Choice Awards were handed out in a televised program last night. The big news of the night was The Dark Knight's incredible showing.

The awards come in a whole slew of categories. Those of most interest to genre fans include:

Favorite Movie: The Dark Knight beat Indiana Jones and the Kingdom of the Crystal Skull and Iron Man

Favorite Family Movie: WALL-E beat The Chronicles of Narnia: Prince Caspian and Kung Fu Panda

Favorite Action Movie: In a rerun of "Favorite Movie", The Dark Knight beat Indiana Jones and the Kingdom of the Crystal Skull and Iron Man

Favorite Cast: The Dark Knight beat Mamma Mia! and Sex and the City

Favorite On-Screen Match-Up: Christian Bale & Heath Ledger (The Dark Knight) beat Shia LaBeouf & Harrison Ford (Indiana Jones) and Tina Fey & Amy Poehler (Baby Mama)

Favorite Male Movie Star: Will Smith beat Harrison Ford and Robet Downey, Jr.

Favorite Female Movie Star: Reese Witherspoon beat Angelina Jolie and Keira Knightley

Favorite Male Action Star: Will Smith beat Christian Bale and Robert Downey, Jr.

Favorite Female Action Star: Angelina Jolie beat Anne Hathaway and Cate Blanchett

Favorite Leading Man: Brad Pitt beat Christian Bale and Mark Wahlberg

Favorite Leadying Lady: Kate Hudson beat Anne Hathaway and Queen Latifah

Favorite Superhero: Christian Bale as Bruce Wayne/Batman beat Robert Downey, Jr., as Tony Stark/Iron Man and Will Smith as John Hancock

Favorite New TV Drama: The Mentalist beat 90210 and Fringe

Favorite Sci Fi/Fantasy Show: Heroes beat Supernatural and Terminator: The Sarah Connor Chronicles

Favorite Online Sensation: Dr. Horrible's Sing-Along Blog beat Dance Battle 2, Kobe Bryant Attempts Massive Stunt, Paris Hilton Responds to McCain Ad, and Pork and Beans
