2009 Golden Globe Winners Announced

By Kit Hawkins

The Hollywood Foreign Press Association just concluded handing out their 66th annual Golden Globes. As usual, not a very big night for sf/f/h, but our genres did take home a few of the globes. Specifically:

Heath Ledger won the Best Supporting Actor in a Motion Picture award for his role as the Joker in The Dark Knight. He beat Tom Cruise and Robert Downey, Jr. (both in Tropic Thunder), Ralph Fiennes (in The Duchess), and Philip Seymour Hoffman (in Doubt).

WALL-E was named Best Animated Feature Film, beating Bolt and Kung Fu Panda.

Anna Paquin won the Best Actress in a Television Series—Drama award for her role in True Blood, beating Sally Field (Brothers & Sisters), Mariska Hargitay (Law & Order: Special Victims Unit), January Jones (Mad Men), and Kyra Sedgwick (The Closer).

In addition, Steven Spielberg was given the Cecil B. DeMille Award.

We detailed all the genre nominees in this article. The full list of winners (and nominees) is available on the HFPA's website at on this page.
