Mindy Klasky's fundraiser for First Book

By Ian Randal Strock

Author Mindy Klasky is conducting a fundraiser for the children's literacy charity, First Book, which gives low-income kids their first books to read and own. She writes: "The fundraiser is in two parts: 1) A calendar for sale featuring 12 recipes created by several genre authors in honor of the Cake Walk bakery featured in my Jane Madison Series of books, and 2) a ten-item auction (including glass jewelry inspired by the Jane Madison Series, a number of books on Wicca, tarot cards, and related items)." The calendar will be available for three months; the auctions conclude on 10 November 2008.

Detailed information is available on her web site. Klasky has previously supported the charity with a portion of her profits from Girl's Guide to Witchcraft and Sorcery and the Single Girl.

Klasky's "Jane Madison" series is the story of a librarian who finds out that she's a witch. She is also the author of the "Glasswright" series, a fantasy series that tells the story of Rani Trader, a merchant girl who witnesses an assassination and is accused of being the killer, struggling to find her way in a caste-bound, religious society.
