Gale Anne Hurd / Valhalla Motion Pictures buys film rights to GearHead

By Ian Randal Strock

Arcana Comics has licensed film rights to its graphic novel GearHead to producer Gale Anne Hurd and her Valhalla Motion Pictures production company.

GearHead was created by Dennis Hopeless and Kevin Mellon, and debuted in 2007. In GearHead, "a young woman teams up with a group of rebels to fight the corrupt superheroes who govern the United States. She must rise to the challenge of her destiny and become GearHead."

"We are excited to bring GearHead to life. It's a terrific character-driven story set in a unique and compelling world," Hurd said.

Valhalla's recent productions include The Incredible Hulk and the forthcoming The Punisher: War Zone. Hurd is most closely associated with the Terminator franchise, producing all three films and the current tv series, but she has extensive sf experience.

Film rights to GearHead were previously optioned by Darius Films. See this article from July 2007.
