Superman's Birthplace Saved

Following up on this article, which we published a month ago, about the effort Brad Meltzer was spearheading to save the childhood home of Jerry Siegel, creator of Superman, Reuters is reporting success. The agency quotes Meltzer as saying that the auction, which ended Tuesday, raised $101,744, which was more than twice the goal he had set ($50,000). The extra money, Reuters says, will allow Ordinary People Change the World to also fix up the inside of the house in Cleveland (beyond the external repairs they'd been hoping to do).

Reuters also says the project started when Meltzer was researching a novel, and discovered the condition of the house. "[H]e wasn't sure people would care about restoring the red-and-blue house where the superhero who wears the red-and-blue suit was dreamed up in 1932." Apparently, people did care.
