Top Box Office Grossers: Second Week of September

Variety reports the top movies, in terms of box office take, for the week of 5-11 September 2008. A new film, Bangkok Dangerous, opened at the top of the charts, pushing last week's #1, Tropic Thunder, to #2. The Dark Knight held on to the #3 spot from last week. This week, the Batman Begins sequel took in another $7.2 million, bringing its eight-week total box office take to $513.7 million. Babylon A.D., which opened at #2 last week, this week dropped to #6, grossing $5.4 million, for a two-week total of $18.6 million. Death Race dropped from #6 to #7, bringing in $5.0 million, for a three-week total of $31.2 million.

Mirrors held steady in the #12 spot, taking in another $2.3 million, for a four-week total of $28.2 million. Star Wars: The Clone Wars dropped from #10 to #13, grossing just under $2.0 million, for a four-week total of $33.0 million. The Mummy: Tomb of the Dragon Emperor was down from #13 to #14, bringing in $1.8 million, for a six-week total of $100.9 million. Fly Me to the Moon flew up this week, from #18 to #16, with a box office take of $1.5 million, for a four-week total of $8.5 million. Journey to the Center of the Earth slipped from #16 to #17, grossing $1.5 million, for a nine-week total of $96.9 million. WALL-E also slipped, from #21 to #22, bringing in just under $1.0 million, for an eleven-week total of $219.5 million. And, after falling out of the top 25 last week, Hancock returned, to the #25 spot, taking in another $500 thousand, to bring its ten-week total to $227.9 million.

Kung Fu Panda fell out of the top 25, after being in the #24 spot last week, the film's thirteenth in release.
