Australian/British actor Lloyd Lamble dies

By Kit Hawkins

SF Site alerts us to the death of actor Lloyd Lamble on 9 or 10 April 2008. Born 8 February 1914 in Melbourne, Australia, he was a successful stage, radio, and film actor in his native Australia and New Zealand until World War II, when he was enlisted to read war propaganda. After the war, he was blacklisted on suspicion of being a communist, and in 1950, moved to England on a forged passport, hoping to revive his career.

His genre appearances include: And Now the Screaming Starts! (1973), Journey to the Unknown (1969), The Prisoner (1968), two episodes of Invisible Man (1959), Behemoth the Sea Monster (1959), Night of the Demon (1957), and Quartermass 2 (1957).

Lamble's first two marriages ended in divorce (although he fathered two children with his second wife, Barbara Smith). His third marriage, to Leslie Jackson, in 1944, lasted until his death). He is survived by his wife, his two children, two adopted children, and three grandchildren.
