Campbell and Sturgeon Award winners announced

Though the awards aren't scheduled to be presented until Friday night, the J. Wayne and Elsie M. Gunn Center for the Study of Science Fiction at the University of Kansas in Lawrence has announced the winners of this year's John W. Campbell Memorial Award (for best science-fiction novel of 2007) and Theodore Sturgeon Memorial Award (for best short science fiction story published in 2007).

This year's Campbell winner is In War Times by Kathleen Ann Goonan. Second place goes to The Yiddish Policeman's Union by Michael Chabon, while Ken MacLeod's The Execution Channel takes third.

For the first time in the history of the Sturgeon, there is a tie (well, two ties). The winners are "Tidelines" by Elizabeth Bear and "Finistera" by David R. Moles. The two stories tying for second place are "The Master Miller's Tale" by Ian R. MacLeod and "Memorare" by Gene Wolfe.
