SFWA Election Results: New Officers Take Office in July

By Ian Randal Strock

The Science Fiction and Fantasy Writers of America (SFWA) announced the winners of their annual Board of Directors election during this weekend's Nebula Awards festivities. The officers, who will take office at the beginning of July for one-year terms, are:

President: Russell Davis

Vice President: Elizabeth Moon

Treasurer: Amy Casil

Secretary: Mary Robinette Kowal

Regional Directors are elected for staggered three-year terms. This year's elections were:

Eastern Regional Director: Bud Sparhawk

Overseas Regional Director: Ian Whates

Continuing in office are: Canadian RD Chris Atack, South/Central RD Paul Melko, and Western RD Russell Davis.

Davis collected 330 votes to current Vice President Andrew Burt's 53. Moon and Casil were unopposed (receiving 356 and 330 votes, respectively). Kowal got 297 to Lee Martindale's 79. Sparhawk—the only officer running for reelection—was unopposed, and got 95 votes. Whates received all 19 votes cast in his election. The lists of write-in vote recipients are long and sometimes amusing, and available on this page.
