By Ian Randal Strock

Galaxy Press has recently announced the winners of the first quarter 2008 Writers and Illustrators of the Future contests. 2008 is, remarkably, the 25th year of the Writers of the Future contest.

The Writers of the Future (WotF) quarterly winners are:

1st Place: "Gone Black" by Matthew Rotundo of Omaha, Nebraska

2nd Place: "The Farthest Born" by Gary Kloster of Braham, Minnesota

3rd Place: "The Assignment of Runner ETI" by Fiona Lehn of Vancouver, British Columbia

The judges for this quarter were: Algis Budrys, Tim Powers, Brian Herbert, and Rebecca Moesta.

The Illustrators of the Future (IotF) quarterly winners are not ranked. They are:

Tobias Anson Fruge of Mesa, Arizona

A.R. Stone of Eugene, Oregon

Oleksandra Barysheva of Matawan, New Jersey

The winning illustrations will be posted on this blog in the next few days. WotF winning stories appear in the annual anthologies; IotF winners illustrate those stories.

All the quarterly winners receive cash prizes and invitations to the annual workshop and awards ceremony. For more information on the contests, see www.writersofthefuture.com.
