Nalo Hopkinson starting eponymous imprint at Red Deer Press

By Ian Randal Strock

Robert J. Sawyer reports that Nalo Hopkinson "has joined the Red Deer Press team as the editor of her own fantasy imprint," which will be a companion to his Robert J. Sawyer Books imprint. Hopkinson expects to be publishing three books a year for Red Deer.

Hopkinson, like Sawyer, is an award-winning, Toronto-based speculative fiction author. Sawyer says of the new imprint "this has been in the works for months now, and I take justifiable pride in it happening, I think, as I'm the one who recommended and introduced Nalo to Sharon Fitzhenry, the publisher of Fitzhenry & Whiteside, Red Deer's parent company. Welcome aboard, Nalo!"

In addition to her original writings, Hopkinson has edited several original anthologies. her web site is temporarily off-line, but her Wikipedia entry gives a brief overview of her career.

[Edited 9 February 2008: Hopkinson announces some corrections and amplifications to this piece. They're in this article.]
