The Hollywood Foreign Press Association awards the year's first television and movie awards, the Golden Globes. The 65th annual Golden Globe award winners are scheduled to be announced on 13 January 2008 at the Beverly Hilton Hotel in Los Angeles, California (and airing at 8PM EST on NBC television). Now the question (in addition to who will win) is: will any of the nominees show up? Remember, the Writers' Guild of America is on strike.
There are very few Golden Globe nominees of special interest to genre fans. Only one genre movie was nominated in any of the categories, and at that, it's a tenuous connection to the genre: Sweeney Todd is nominated for Best Motion Picture, Musical or Comedy; Best Director (Tim Burton); Best Actor, Comedy or Musical (Johnny Depp); and Best Actress, Comedy or Musical (Helena Bonham Carter).
Genre tv didn't fare much better.
Jekyll was nominated for Best Performance by an Actor in a Miniseries or Motion Picture made for Television (James Nesbitt).
Medium was nominated for Best Actress, TV Drama (Patricia Arquette).
Pushing Daisies was nominated for Best TV Series, Musical or Comedy; Best Actor, TV Musical or Comedy (Lee Pace); and Best Actress, TV Musical or Comedy (Anna Friel).
Steven Spielberg will be receiving the Cecil B. DeMille Lifetime Achievement Award for his "outstanding contribution to the entertainment field." Spielberg has been nominated 18 Golden Globes, winning six of them.
And former genre actor William Shatner was nominated for Best Supprting Actor for his work on Boston Legal.
