Actress Jeanne Carmen Dies

By Kit Hawkins

Actress and pinup girl Jeanne (Laverne) Carmen died 20 December 2007 of lymphoma. Born on 4 August 1930 in Paragould, Arkansas, she picked cotton with her family before running away at the age of 13. She arrived in New York and started dancing in burlesque shows while still a teenager. She later went into modeling, and gained some fame with a series of cheesecake shots in men's magazines. Then she discovered a talent for golf, and made some money as a hustler, before making her way to Hollywood. She appeared in many B movies, but never hit the big time.

Her genre films appearances include: The Naked Monster (2005), The Devil's Hand (1962), and The Monster of Piedras Blancas (1959).
