New anthology Voices looking for contemporary horror

By Ian Randal Strock

Mark S. Deniz and Amanda Pillar are editing an anthology of contemporary horror tentatively titled Voices for Eneit Press. They're currently looking at a release date in October 2008, and will be reading stories starting 1 December 2007 (they emphasize that submissions arriving earlier than that will not be read).

In Voices, every story will take place in a hotel room. They're looking for modern-day stories, but there "are no guidelines for how the room will look, as this is something that will not be mentioned by place, a hotel that the reader will in fact not see, other than in the selected rooms." They are looking for stories that shock, disturb, and scare the reader, emphasizing psychological and/or supernatural horror stories over hack and slash gore. "Think claustrophobia, think confinement, think hopelessness, think fear," the editors say.

Payment is $20 for stories between 2,000 and 7,000 words, and the reading period will close on 1 April 2008.

For full guidelines and the submission address, see this page.
