The Libertarian Futurist Society (LFS) presented its annual Prometheus Awards at this year's World Science Fiction Convention (WorldCon), Nippon 2007 in Yokohama, Japan (we listed the finalists in this article).
The winners of the Best Novel is Glasshouse by Charles Stross (published by Ace)
There was a tie for the Prometheus Hall of Fame Award for Best Classic Fiction. The winners are:
It Can't Happen Here by Sinclair Lewis (a novel first published in 1936), and
"True Names" by Vernor Vinge (a novella first published in 1981)
In addition, the LFS voted a Special Award this year for the motion picture V for Vendetta, directed by James McTeigue, screenplay by the Wachowski Brothers (Warner Bros.)
The Prometheus Awards honor "outstanding science fiction/fantasy that explores the possibilities of a free future, champions human rights (including personal and economic liberty), dramatizes the perennial conflict between individuals and coercive governments, or critiques the tragic consequences of abuse of power—especially by the State."
