Bryant Park's Film Festival Features Horror

By Ian Randal Strock

Bryant Park's Summer Film Festival returns for its 15th year starting 18 June. The films are shown free on the lawn in New York City's Bryant Park (Avenue of the Americas between West 40th and West 42nd Streets; behind the New York Public Library), and start at sunset. Three genre classics are among this year's offerings:

On 25 June, the movie is The Thing (from Another Planet) about an alien spaceship discovered at the North Pole, and the frozen, but not yet dead, pilot found in it. Based on a story by John W. Campbell, Jr. (1951, 87 minutes).

On 9 July, it's Wait Until Dark about a blind woman who gets tangled up with drug smugglers and their murderous intentions. Starring Audrey Hepburn, Alan Arkin, Richard Crenna, and Efrem Zimbalist, Jr. (1967, 107 minutes).

On 20 August, they wrap up this summer with Psycho, the classic Hitchcock film starring Anthony Perkins, Janet Leigh, and a shower curtain (1960, 109 minutes).

The full ten-week schedule is on this page. Call 212-512-5700 for schedule updates.
