Joe Haldeman in Documentary Film

By Ian Randal Strock

Author (and Vietnam War veteran) Joe Haldeman has a small part in a new documentary film called Operation Homecoming: Writing the Wartime Experience, about what returning Iraq war veterans are writing. His wife, Gay, writes "We've seen it and it's a powerful film."

The documentary will be broadcast as a 55-minute film on PBS nationwide at 10PM on Monday 16 April as part of the series America at a Crossroads.

An 88-minute version is making the rounds of film festivals and small theaters. The upcoming appearances include:

6-12 April at the Coolidge Corner Theater in Boston, Massachusetts.

6-12 April at the Hollywood Theater in Portland, Oregon.

6-12 April at the Laemmle Grand downtown in Los Angeles, California.

13-20 April at the Tower Theater in Salt Lake City, Utah.

14 April in the Full Frame Documentary Festival in Durham, North Carolina.

There is a trailer for the film available on YouTube (Haldeman doesn't appear in this trailer).

The next scheduled Haldeman appearance is his new book, The Accidental Time Machine, which will be released on 7 August.
